Having been created by Congress through the Immigration Act of 1990, TPS is a temporary immigration status granted to eligible nationals of a country that the US Government has designated for TPS because the country is experiencing an ongoing armed conflict, an environmental disaster, or extraordinary and temporary conditions. TPS offers many benefits including the ability for said nationals to continue living in the U.S., to legally be able to work in the U.S., as well as obtain their Drivers License and Social Security Card. Although TPS is only valid for a period of 180 days, TPS Applicants have the option for renewal based upon the ongoing conditions of the country. To be eligible for TPS, an individual must meet the following requirements:

Here are the likely TPS requirement for Haiti:

  • Be a citizen or national of Haiti, or a person without nationality who last habitually resided in Haiti
  • File an I-821 Application for TPS (register) during the open initial registration period which will begin soon
  • Be continuously physically present in the United States since May 21, 2021
  • Be continuously residing in the United States since approximately May 20, 2021

if you are a citizen of Haiti and you have been living in the U.S. since May 20, 2021, you may qualify for Haitian TPS and should register as soon as the initial registration period opens.

Note: TPS Applicants must make careful considerations when applying for TPS. It is important to file properly and by the mandated deadline. If not done in accordance with the U.S. Government guidelines, you may lose your chance to benefit from TPS.
